چکیده

(Enterobacteriaceae Center of Japan) Dysentery cases have been increasing in Japan since the end of the second world war. Especially in the year 1951, reported cases were largest during these years. The present paper is dealing with the typing of Shigella strains isolated in Japan during the year 1951, and forwarded to our laboratory mostly for type-identification and partly to meet our request. But the strains examined were not of the exact representation of true type distribution. RESULTS OF EXAMINATION

A late mannitol-fermenting strain and rapidly fermenting variant of Shigella Flexneri type Z.

Shigella organisms are divided biochemically into two main groups distinguished by their ability to ferment mannitol. Non-mannitol-fermenting strains of Sh. flexneri type 88 (biochemical type newcastle) and of Sh. flexneri type 103 (Mumford and Mohr, 1944) are, however, well recognized, and it is probable that similar variants occur among other mannitol-fermenting dysentery bacilli. The organis...

The detection microscopically of colonies of shigella in stool cultures.

Early recognition of the presence of Shigella in the stool of a patient facilitates use of the most specific therapy and proper consideration of epidemiologic implications. The positive diagnosis of a Shigella infection requiies isolation of the etiologic agent from the stool of the patient and its identification by biochemical and serological studies which usually require a minimum of 36 to 48...

Studies on the nutritional requirements of bacteria, III. Nitrogen requirements of dysentery bacilli in the synthetic medium.

The National Institute of Health of Japan, Tokyo (Received for publication, March 30, 1950) Evolutional steps of -nitrogen requirements of bacteria have been set up as follows. N2-N03-NH4-amino nitrogen-amino nitrogen+growth factor. Dysentery bacilli belong to the last step (3, 4, 6). As shown in the preceding report (5), Shigella dysenteriae (Shiga type) belongs to the transition zone between ...

Determining the antibacterial effect of ZnO nanoparticle against the pathogenic bacterium, Shigella dysenteriae (type 1)

The nanomaterials have important application in different field of science such as biology and pharmacology, which draws the attention of biologists towards this field of study more than before. As the worldwide mortality rate is high due to the pathogens and especially because of the bacteria associated dysenteriae and the antibacterial effect of metal nanoparticles is well known from centurie...
